Here’s some of what I’ve learned from those wiser than me at the time. As we live the stresses of daily life (emotional, physical, and dietary) there must be available (ionic) calcium in the blood to neutralize the resulting acid that these stresses create in order to maintain the ideal blood pH for survival. If not, the wisdom of the body will rob calcium from the bones and muscle tissue in order to keep us alive.

    Note: A study done in Tokyo indicated that people with acidic systems absorbed more pollution than people who had established proper blood alkalinity.

ALKALINITY … For The Perfect Body.

I don’t know about you but, but some of us seem to have a BIG problem, whether we’re a fitness athlete trying to achieve that lean hard look with optimum energy, and a perfect balance between muscle mass and body fat, or one who just wants to look and feel your best. We try different approaches to reach our goals. Sometimes, no matter what we do, what exercise program we try, supplement we take or diet we eat we just have trouble putting on muscle mass and getting that lean look. Most of us have known that frustration at some point in our lives, in our quest for size and a lean physique.

If you’re like me, you’ve dreamed of and worked hard, hoping to achieve the perfect body size and shape. We’ve spent a considerable amount of time and research learning different aspects and approaching this problem from every possible angle. Not to mention the monetary investment in seminars, classes and training programs, trying the latest supplements, nutritional counseling, natural and holistic doctors and picking everyone’s brains that we come in contact with. I believe that this search for knowledge is life’s greatest learning experience. And, that by adding any amount of new information to our knowledge base, we make our most important contribution not only to our own goals, but also to future generations.

    Note: As we all know, life is a living classroom, and everyday, through some experience, (good or bad) something is learned. In this case, the solution was found within the design and function of how our body systems work. ALKALINITY for Perfect Health: What the experts know and say …

  • Most bacteria thrive in slightly acid conditions.

  • Slightly alkaline blood keeps bacteria from multiplying because it absorbs oxygen better.

  • Oxygen hastens the breakdown of pathogenic bacteria, since most harmful bacteria are anaerobic (cannot tolerate oxygen).

  • The aerobic cycle is one of oxidation/reduction based on available oxygen in the bloodstream. When blood becomes acidic, less oxygen is absorbed. Cells need oxygen to metabolize food and convert it to energy. If cells do not get enough oxygen, they can no longer function normally – aerobically.

  • Alkaline blood absorbs oxygen in sufficient quantities to oxidize food, convert it to energy and neutralize acidic waste products, a normal aspect of food metabolism. Body cells switch to anaerobic energy production when they can no longer derive enough oxygen from blood cells.

  • Blood cells normally attach oxygen to hemoglobin contained in the red blood cells and carry it to all the cells of the body, where it is transferred through the cell walls. The cells then use the oxygen to break down food molecules, and release their stored energy. Cells normally function in relation to other cells in a manner that supports the organism (us) as a whole. Supplied with balanced nourishment, cells function normally. Given abnormal nourishment, cells grow abnormally. Cancer is a symptom or expression of abnormal cellular metabolism. Abnormal cell growth is called cancer.

  • Acidic blood cannot absorb oxygen readily. Slight blood alkalinity is critical. Even a slightly acidic system can cause serious problems. After a while, chronically acidic people deprive their systems of adequate oxygen and the aerobic cycle switches to the anaerobic cycle, creating deadly by-products. Instead of the normal waste product of aerobic oxidation, CO2 (carbon dioxide), ketones, aldehydes, and alcohol are produced. Some of these are toxic substances used in paint thinners. After some time, exposure to these toxic by-products of the anaerobic cycle stresses the immune system, making one susceptible to colds, flu, chronic fatigue symptoms and eventually, abnormal cell growth (cancer).

  • The importance for maintaining an optimal blood pH cannot be over emphasized. Any deviation from optimal blood pH of 7.46 can result in lack of utilization of enzymes, lack of absorption of trace nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids. If one’s blood pH were to be in the proximity of ideal, then optimum absorption and utilization of micro and macro-nutrients will take place. The further one’s pH deviates from the ideal, the less efficient will be the absorption and utilization of these nutrients. This is when allergies, fatigue, digestive disorders, and a multitude of other disease conditions can occur.

  • The absence of absorbable minerals in the blood, can result in calcium being leached from the bones. This leads to osteoporosis, brittle bones and loss of bone density. An acidic state also causes oxygen deficits. It produces insoluble plaques containing insoluble fats and insoluble calcium minerals, which accumulate in our system. As you may have guessed by now, all these factors lead to a severe catabolic state and degeneration in overall health, which greatly accelerates the aging process.

      NOTE: I don’t remember where I read that research is showing evidence of bone density loss and increased brittleness in younger and younger children; Could this be due to their junk-food diet?

      NOTE: Remember the distance runner Jerry LaQuarry. His death was attributed to overtraining and high acid levels in the blood. We’ve all heard of other athletes that die and doctors find no apparent cause for their death.

  • Research now shows that some of these deaths have been linked to high acid levels in the blood. Our system must maintain a blood pH between 7.39 – 7.45 at all times. If our blood pH falls below 7.0 or climbs above 7.8, death is the result. If our bodily systems are so busy working at correcting this aftermath, pollution and inadequate hydration; coupled with trying to balance our pH then there is no time left for anabolic functions and health preservation. As a result of all this we are very likely to experience to some degree, excessive fatigue and other symptoms such as sore joints, mental confusion and/or a lack of clear thinking. Also, low sodium levels, which interfere with potassium levels, results in calcium being leached from the bones. This leads to osteoporosis, brittle bones and loss of bone density.   • Did you know that a single glass of cola has a pH of 2.5? Add this glass of cola to ten gallons of water with a pH of 7.4 and the pH of that ten gallons drop to 4.6! The human body contains approximately ten gallons of slightly alkaline water. Fortunately for us, a glass of cola does not lower our pH to 4.6. This would be fatal but it does greatly accelerate the aging process. It takes 32 gallons of water with a pH of 10.0 to neutralize that one glass of cola!

  • There have been over 100,000 new chemicals introduced into our environment in recent years. We are relying on more processed foods than fresh and absorbing more chemicals through soaps, shampoos, detergents, and through the air. Most American homes are riddled with all types of caustic chemicals; just look under your kitchen sink, in your bathroom and in your garage and you’ll see them. All these factors contribute to the degeneration of health, which is becoming more prevalent in our world today.

  • The human body is alkaline by design and acid by function. Maintaining a balanced alkalinity is essential for good health, anti-aging and vitality. Let’s take a brief trip down memory lane to revisit our chemistry 101 class. Remember the good old days of high school and college chemistry labs when we were given different beakers with solutions in them and a little strip of litmus paper to test the pH to find out if the solution was acid or base? Those same tests hold true here and provide a marker for testing where we are in terms of being alkaline and acid (healthy or unhealthy).

    MEASURING PH Alkalinity and acidity are measured in terms of their pH. PH is a measure of the concentration hydrogen ions in a solution. The perfect pH balance that is required to sustain optimal health is between 7.39 and 7.46. I know your probably saying, what the heck does all this have to do with the fact that I can’t seem to put on any quality muscle or loose the body fat? That’s a great question … Let’s start with acid, the bad guy in this situation. The acidic state, refers to a pH lower than 7.0, making us catabolic. This means that we’re tearing ourselves down, building up toxins, metabolic wastes and inhibiting the immune system. In this acid state the body can not fight off the effects of free radicals which promote and invite disorder, disease, illness and accelerated aging. An acidic pH is a result of protein breakdown and can be characterized by the odor of ammonia in the urine. This is a strong signal that the body is in need of CALCIUM and a reduction in protein consumption. In this state we are constantly tearing down muscle tissue leading to a higher fat to muscle ratio. To be perfectly blunt, we’re slowly burning ourselves up internally in much the same way pouring acid on skin reacts externally. All these factors affect our ability to increase muscle mass and reduce body fat by inhibiting the cell respiration vital to our health. This inhibition causes a weak immune system, which can lead to increased illness and disease. If you’re frequently catching colds it is a result of this breakdown in your immune system. We may tend to gain weight, mostly fat, or we just might have trouble shedding those stubborn extra pounds no matter how much aerobics we seem to do. As the body works to try and balance the increasing levels of acid being produced, it’s not able to keep up, which further increases acid levels. Individuals who are in an acidic state and still consuming large quantities of protein compound their problem. Acidic ash foods should be kept to 25% of our daily intake. Almost all protein has an acidic ash affect in our system. This includes eggs, beef, pork, fish and poultry. Grains from wheat and oats are also acidifying effect along with oatmeal, nuts, white and whole-wheat flour, pasta and rice. Even some vegetables like corn, winter squash, dried lentils and dried peas produce an acidic effect.

    Test your urine pH when you first void in the morning. Low pH urine reflects that your body is throwing off a lot of acid to help maintain the required pH.     EASY TEST: … When I go to the bathroom, my stool sinks. Is that bad? When your stool sinks … it is heavy … because there are still nutrients or undigested foods within it. It also shows that we are having a problem digesting food properly. When the nutrients within the food are completely digested … the stool will be light and fluffy and will float. With “Enzymes” most people will see their stool float within a couple of weeks to a month. It may take a little longer for some. A floating stool is a good sign!
